Founded
in 2009, Brighter Futures is a service user led and organised group
supporting anyone experiencing emotional and mental distress. As a group
we felt that there was limited provision in Selby
District for Service Users with mental health issues. It was decided
that a group of service users would be established. Crucially this was
to be a group run by service users for service users. We
collectively decide how the group should look and what it should do.
Built upon the recovery model, the emphasis is always on enjoying
ourselves with friendship being a core value. We go on numerous
day trips both locally (Fountains Abbey, Brimham Rocks, Scarborough,
Whitby, Yorkshire Sculpture Park amongst many others) and further afield
(Newcastle, Edingburgh and a even a trip to
London).
We
aim to provide a friendly environment where you can come along and feel
part of the group. Having all experienced some form of mental illness
we
have a pretty good idea of what you are going through. We do however
recognise that we all have different experiences and will always listen
without judging. We also welcome carers to our
coffee and chat sessions. We offer practical support and assistance
wrapped up in some much needed fun.
We organise twice weekly meetings in...
